Being born and raised in Clarksburg, Alex was inspired to pursue a career in architecture by the city’s unique circumstance of urban decline that hides the great potential of Clarksburg and many other Appalachian towns. Alex has a special interest in the urban design and development of Appalachian communities, as well as the implementation of unique building systems that can produce architectural solutions in a way that is both sustainable and economical. While in college Alex used his summers to gain experience working for masonry and general building contractors. Through a deep understanding of building systems and technology, Alex plans to employ innovative building practices that are indicative of an Appalachian vernacular architecture. Alex believes that abundant community engagement and innovative design solutions are the keys to unlocking the full potential of Clarksburg and other similar urban districts. He believes community is key to creation of a place with shared value which has led him into several community and professional organizations including, Volunteer Football Coach for Clarksburg Eagles,  the Clarksburg Beautification Committee, and Clarksburg Uptown, Inc.
